International Yoga Day Poland

In the midst of a sprawling concrete city, tucked away in a lush park, a group of onlookers beheld an amazing spectacle of a woman balanced perilously on top of a man’s body. In sync with rhythmic and pulsating drum beats, she gracefully stretched and twisted her body in different poses, defying all limits of human flexibility. The growing crowd oohed and aahed unabashedly at her every move, watching with wide eyed bewilderment as the young girl continued with her grandiose display.

It was the annual celebration of International Yoga Day and despite being a society which was stereotyped for its conservatism, throngs of people had gathered in the wee hours of the morning to participate in the event. On stage a young performer displayed the art of ‘Acro-Yoga’, a physical practice renowned for combining yoga, acrobatics and therapeutics. The scents of ginger, cardamom and spices wafted over from a boiling cauldron as volunteers brewed ‘masala chai’ for the spectators.

The day was still in its early stages of infancy yet the colorful display of tents and yoga mats littering the park were a promising indication of the series of events to follow.
